I just watched a video clip on hotels and motels and how they clean their rooms. It was pretty shocking. Using hidden cameras in the bathrooms, the housekeeping staff were recorded cleaning the glasses in the rooms. Shockingly, they do not remove the glasses from the room and send them through the dishwasher, but rather some hotels and motels allow their staff to just spray the glasses with glass cleaner, and wipe them dry with the towels in the room. One housekeeper was filmed while she used a dirty wash cloth to dry the glasses.
If you are checking into hotels and motels over the holiday season, make sure that you wash your glasses in hot soapy water before using them. If you want more motivation to clean those glasses, here it is: one housekeeper was wearing a rubber glove, and right after she cleaned the toilet, she did not rinse the glove, but proceeded to "wash" the glasses using a spray, and dry them with a towel. If you are traveling this season, hope the hotels and motels you check into use disposable glasses and cups or plan on washing them yourself with hot, soapy water. Even the shampoos they provide will be better at sanitizing than window cleaner.
